newbie: Help, I have problems with this!
asp.net 2.0
visual web developer 2005 express
I have a webpage which contains 1 Repeater control. Into this repeater
control I want to add several rows of data. My problem is that 1 of the data
is an array of bytes (it's a picture saved to the database as bytes) and I
want that picture to be displayed nicely in the repeater list...
Here is two approaches (approach A and approach B) I'm trying:
APPROACH A:
Use the scenario of 2 .aspx files, 1 .aspx (A) convert the bytes of array
into a picture and the other .aspx file (B) has a img tag pointing to the
first .aspx file (A)
But here I get problems with this line "img.Src =
"Thumnail.aspx?ImageID=1";", it looks like it expects a object... Somehow I
need to send over a parameter to this Thumbnail.aspx file about which image
to display... Lets say the resultset has many images, but this row shall
display one particular image
protected void rptInbox_ItemDataBound(object sender, RepeaterItemEventArgs
e)
{
System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlImage img = null;
if ((e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.Item) || (e.Item.ItemType ==
ListItemType.AlternatingItem)) {
img =
(System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlImage)e.Item.FindControl("Photo");
img.Src = "Thumnail.aspx?ImageID=1";
}
}

</tr>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
</asp:Content>
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="sidebar" Runat="Server">
</asp:Content>

APPROACH B:
In this approach I tryed to replace the img tag with a Image control in the
repeater.
But the "System.Drawing.Bitmap bmp = new System.Drawing.Bitmap(mstream);"
gives this error:
"Parameter is not valid."
Another thing is that I'm not sure this is a good approach because it uses
bmp.Save() and I'm afraid the server will run out of space if images get
saved on the server each time th page is displayed?
protected void rptInbox_ItemDataBound(object sender, RepeaterItemEventArgs
e)
{
//System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlImage img = null;
System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image img = null;
if ((e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.Item) || (e.Item.ItemType ==
ListItemType.AlternatingItem)) {
img =
(System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image)e.Item.FindControl("Photo");
byte[] data = Profile.Picture;
Int32 offset = 78;
System.IO.MemoryStream mstream = new System.IO.MemoryStream();
mstream.Write(data, offset, data.Length - offset);
System.Drawing.Bitmap bmp = new System.Drawing.Bitmap(mstream);
bmp.Save(Server.MapPath("sample.jpeg"),
System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg);
mstream.Close();
img.ImageUrl = Server.MapPath("sample.jpeg");
}
//e.Item.DataItem.ToString();
}
Please help me with this one, I'm stucked in this problem...

newbie: load image from db + Repeater
asp.net 2.0
With the help of a Repeater control on my webpage I want to dynamically
generate a list which contains both images and text field. This data are
stored in the aspnetdb.mdf database.
I know it's possible to have the imag tag to point to a .aspx file (<img
src="getImage.aspx" /> )
This is the Page_Load event I have in my getImage.aspx file
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (Profile.Picture != null)
{
Response.ContentType = Profile.PictureType;
Response.BinaryWrite(Profile.Picture);
Response.End();
}
}
The getImage.aspx file above is used another place in my project. My PROBLEM
is that I don't know how to adapt (make another version of getImage.aspx
which suit the repeater) this getImage.aspx file into the Repeater control.
More specific: in the Page_Load event of getImage.aspx you see that I'm
setting some properties of the Response object with some values of the
Profile object. But in the new getImage.aspx file (created specially for the
Repeater control) I must for each line in the Repeater control pass over the
correct ID to the Page_Load event so the getImage.aspx file knows what image
to load!
In other words how can I tell the Page_Load event what image to show. I
think about using a paramter. But my problem is that I don't know how to add
such a parameter. Maybe it could be passed in the EventArgs argument.. I'm
not sure...
Instead of sending the picture ID I could send over the bytes representing
the image. But even that, I (As Far As I Know) still have to send a paramter
to the Page_Load event
Any ideas how I should pass over such a parameter?
Jeffhello Jeff
you can track the id's and do something like getImage ( id ) in the
ItemDataBound event.
on this page is a similar example, though uses a GridView instead, but
logically it's the same

newbie: problem with master pages!
I'm creating a simple helloworld project in visual web developer 2005
express
In my my project I've created a simple master page, that contains 1 table (3
rows x 3 columns) and 1 contentplaceholder. The contentplaceholder is placed
at row 2, column 2 (that means it's in the centre cell in the table)...
After creating the master mage, I then created a new web page that uses this
master page. In this web page I added a calendar. But my PROBLEM occur when
I run this website, the calendar is then placed a bit offset to the
left..See this link, and you see what I mean:
http://home.online.no/~au-holme/pub/66404/ (I'm using those different colors
to see where all the table cells goes) As mentioned above the
contentplaceholder is in the second row, seconds column.. but here the
contentplaceholder uses parts of column 1...
I want contentplaceholder to be in column 2, row 2, not like this (column 2
+ COLUMN 1, row 2)
What am I doing wrong here?
Maybe it's a bad idea to position contentplaceholder using tables?
Maybe Panel should be used instead for position contentplaceholder?
Best Regards
JeffLearn CSS Jeff. It solves all these problems but note if you are using
Themes or StyleSheetThemes with your MasterPage.
For now try to wrap your calendar in a div and play with the margin
values...
<div style="margin: .25em .25em .25em .25em">
<asp:Calendar ... />
</div

Chrisdsmith66,
If you have a problem with the viewstate you can always save it away in the
session.

newbie: webpart & Untitled
IDE VS 2005 .NET
ASP.NET 2.0
I've created a very simple asp.net page that contains only 1 WebPartZone. In
this WebPartZone have I placed a Calendar control (webpart)...
The top of this calendar have the text "Untitled"...
my PROBLEM is that I don't want the text "Untitled" to be displayed, but I'm
not sure how to remove it... Isn't there a setting for this on the webpart
(calendar)?..
Please help me with this!
Best Regards!
JeffJeff
Just Add the Title property to the asp:Calendar Control manually in XHTML
<asp:Calendar ID="Calendar1" runat="server" BackColor="White"
BorderColor="#999999"
CellPadding="4" DayNameFormat="Shortest" Font-Names="Verdana"
Font-Size="8pt"
ForeColor="Black" Height="53px" Width="1px" Title=" "
Notice that Title = "space" not empty

Jeff,
You are in luck if the asp:Calendar Control is the second item in the
WebPartZone.
However the First control will still have the same problem
You might have to create your own derived control and implement some
Interface like Implement IWebPart ?
example: that works
<web part zone >
<textbox...> ... Does not work
<calendar... Title=" " >... Works
</web part zone
example: that works only for TextBox
<web part zone >
<calendar... Title=" " >... Works
<textbox...Title=" " > ... Does not work

Yeah, <calendar... Title=" " >... Does not work... when I in Visual Studio
2005 start typing Title the typeahead doesn't show the property Title, it
shows many other properties about Title (like TitleFormat etc, but no
Title)... And the Title property I set in by myself gets a green line under
itself... This tell me that this isn't the correct way to do this.. OR it is
but I don't see it yet... I'm a newbie
But the way I've seen the multimedia presentation about creating Web Parts
at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/l...aspx#Multimedia
and in that presentation they don't add the Title property... still they
get no "Untitled" in the header of the calendar...
The header in my calendar contains the word "Untitled" and a sign I can
click on and open the web part menu (Minimize, Close)
Is the Title property the only solution here or are there some other
solutions also?

I was able to get rid of the Title "Untitled" when I added a TextBox before
the Calendar Control and Added the Title= " "
Even though the typeahead complained about it.
So it is a very strange behavior that it works if it is the second control
in the list.

newbie: webpart & Untitled
BorderColor="#999999"
CellPadding="4" DayNameFormat="Shortest" Font-Names="Verdana"
Font-Size="8pt"
ForeColor="Black" Height="53px" Width="1px" Title=" ">
Notice that Title = "space" not empty

Jeff,
You are in luck if the asp:Calendar Control is the second item in the
WebPartZone.
However the First control will still have the same problem
You might have to create your own derived control and implement some
Interface like Implement IWebPart ?
example: that works
<web part zone >
<textbox...> ... Does not work
<calendar... Title=" " >... Works
</web part zone>
example: that works only for TextBox
<web part zone >
<calendar... Title=" " >... Works
<textbox...Title=" " > ... Does not work
</web part zone>

But the way I've seen the multimedia presentation about creating Web Parts
at
timedia" target="_blank">http://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/l...
timedia
and in that presentation they don't add the Title property... still they
get no "Untitled" in the header of the calendar...

I know this is not the right way.

Newby Question
I need to know how to format it correctly on the URL in the e-mail, and assign that number to a variable in the ASPX page.
Thanks!
Chrishttp://www.example.com?ticketID=x823Y230
Dim strTicketID as string
strTickedID = request.querystring("ticketID")
Thanks - worked like a charm!

News Scroller ??
important is than without having to refresh the component east page it is
taking new registries from a table in Database and
to show them (in the style of chat). Somebody knows some component
(preferredly free) that allows me to do this? Ajax perhaps!
Thanks!That's client-side JavaScript not ASP.NET. Check out DynamicDrive.com
